WHY WE RECOMEND SWISS HERBAL REMEDIES

About the 'Practitioner Strength' Swiss Herbal Remedies tinctures. Most tinctures nowadays are made by a process of simple maceration. This means that a quantity of herb is added to a mixture of water and alcohol and left to stand for a few weeks. This is then pressed out and strained to obtain the finished tincture.

Traditionally herbs were prepared by infusion or decoction in warm water as well as being turned into tinctures. What we have done is to manufacture tinctures that combine the 2 production methods. As you read the information on each herb you will see that a tincture maybe described as a standard tincture. This type of tincture is the kind described above where a quantity of herb is macerated in water and alcohol for a few weeks and then pressed out.

You will see that some tinctures are decocted tinctures. This type of tincture is made by first boiling the herb in water and then it is subjected to the standard tincture making process. This type of extraction is particularly useful for the tough herbal materials such as bark or roots. Infused tinctures on the other hand are made by first steeping the herb in warm water before subjecting it to the standard tincture making process. This method is suited best to leaves and flowers. Finally, a distilled tincture is made by first distilling some of the herb to produce the aromatic water which is water saturated with the essential oil of a herb. This aromatic water is then used as the water in the standard tincture making process of that herb. Some tinctures are made by combining these processes.

By combining the traditional methods of extraction with the modern, a more complete extraction of active principles is achieved. Those of you used to using tinctures will smell, taste and experience the difference in our tinctures.

The tinctures are made by a fully qualified herbalist in Wales and we try our best to obtain organic herbs. Keep coming back and watch the range expand.
